Political History
Ibezim is a founding member of the All Progressives Congress. He was one of those responsible for the grassroots movement that entrenched the party in Imo State.
He served as the Director-General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Imo State, under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) during the 2007 presidential campaign.
In 2010, Ibezim aspired to represent the Okigwe South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, but he was unsuccessful. He was later made the Director, Contacts and Mobilisation of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
Between 2014 and 2015, Ibezim served as the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Imo State.
Following the death of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, the former Senator representing Imo North, Ibezim, amongst other contestants, showed their interest in filling the National Assembly vacancy.
Ibezim emerged the winner on the platform of All Progressives Congress and was sworn in April 2021. He serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industry.

Awards & Honours
Ibezim’s senatorial election was a subject of controversy. In 2020, a Nigerian High Court disqualified Ibezim due to allegations of certificate forgery and impersonation. However, in 2021, the Supreme Court reversed the judgement on the grounds that the suit which led to Ibezim’s disqualification for allegedly supplying false information to secure the nomination, was statute-barred at the time it was instituted.
